Sometimes it might feel as though you’ll never find your life purpose. There’s so much to do in your everyday life that there barely seems to be time to get the basics done. And besides, the world’s problems are so big and overwhelming, what can one person do? Time to reframe and take control.

Exploring what you want to do to have a positive impact on the world can be a fascinating and fulfilling process in itself. Here are five steps you can take to find your calling.

Find your Big Thing

Look inwards to see what it is that fires you up. What are you passionate about in your life? What do you love doing? What do you talk about for hours? What inspires you? TIP: Check your browser history and your reading list. Your Big Thing is right in front of you, all you have to do is claim it!

Identify your superpower

Everyone has something they do where they excel. Write down all the things you’re good at, pick out the top one or two that stand out, the ones that you can offer right now. Instead of feeling helpless, recognize that you have a unique combination of experience and skill to offer the world. No one else in the history of the world can offer what you offer right now.

Volunteer

Whatever your life purpose is, you want to have a positive impact on your community, right? Think about who you want to help. Do you relate to children, or seniors or single moms? Are your superpower skills useful for fundraising or writing submissions? Are you more comfortable as a hands-on career or assistant? Find an organization that could do with a helping hand, whether it’s pro bono work or hands-on volunteering.

Bring it all together

Once you’ve identified your Big Thing, you know what your unique superpowers are and how you want to serve your community, you can connect the dots. What are the common themes? You might be passionate about human rights, be an excellent public speaker and choose to work pro bono as an advocate for your local Amnesty branch. Or you may offer free haircuts or styling to homeless people or the unemployed.

Act!

Now you have your life purpose package you can swing into action. Look for opportunities to align your life purpose with tangible action out in the world. Be bold and resolve to do what you can where you can. You might not be able to achieve world peace, but you can make your community a better place.

If you’ve ever had the privilege of raising or caring for a child, you would have had the opportunity to console and support that tinder soul for one reason or another. Whether you helped dissuade a child’s fears with a promise or kind word, or managed their disappointment with logic or distraction, you instinctively practiced the management of emotion. Consider that you could not remove the emotion of anger or fear from the child. You were not able to reach into their mind and remove the thoughts that plagued the youngster. But you were able to offer words of comfort, offer a change in activity – be it getting a snack or watching a favorite movie, you successfully reduced or helped remove the impact of the unwanted emotion with well-placed distraction.

Our mind is like a child, and our ability to cultivate it will determine our overall success. We must pre-load love, care, and discipline into the mind before a crisis, so that it’s easier to employ self-talk and negotiate better reaction and recovery. We must feed the mind scriptural encouragement, promises, and affirmations so that the overflow of those concepts can guide the mind back to empowerment when thoughts take a turn toward the negative. Self-talk is necessary, especially for entrepreneurs, because unlike a corporate, teamwork structure, business owners often face trouble as lone soldiers. Sometimes you are the only one in the room, and if there will being any pep talks, you will be the speaker and audience. Thus, it is critically important that you learn to speak tender words of encouragement to yourself on a regular basis. It will serve as practice for the times that you need to apply that service to a frustrated, demoralized disposition.

You must also hone the skill of distraction. Sometimes the disappointment or foreboding is too intense, and self-talk is not readily tolerated. In those moments, you will need to use distractions like an emergency intravenous (IV) placed in the arm to replenish liquids in the body. Have your favorite, positive films at the ready. Watch them and laugh with a healthy snack and a word puzzle on your lap. Have a team of business coaches poised for a quick troubleshooting call. Go swimming at the gym or play basketball with your teenage son. Certainly, his laughter when watching you attempt to make a three-pointer will be a bankable, albeit annoying, distraction.

Be certain to use empowered thoughts and positive, healthy distractions. Doing something that’s going to cause you to gain weight, or miss an important appointment is counterproductive. Be aware of the tendency to self-sabotage in response to anger and frustration. Sometimes, if we can’t hurt and wreak mayhem outwardly, we create destruction inwardly. Resist the rookie mistake of using negative, childish, gossip-like thoughts to help combat other negative thoughts. Calling a nemesis names or berating them in your mind will have a temporary release but will also cultivate a standard of aggressive, vengeful pettiness that is bound to show up in a way that will eventually cost you something. So for the sake of the business and for your personal edification, learn to feel the burn of disappointment and find the kindest, most honorable way to lift some or all of that feeling. When your thoughts go low, take them high.

Lastly, understand that mindset is more important than skill or competence. You can get more done with the right attitude and a little determination, than having superior skill but an offensive disposition. While self-talk is a lot easier said than done, if you dig in and refuse the comfort of self-pity, you will be the voice of reason and the means of distraction necessary to overcome in every area of life and business.

Mindset

Creating an empire has to be broken down into bite size pieces. The mighty task of conquering a kingdom has steps and formulas, and the most important aspect is that of spiritual and mental acuity. With regard to mindset, the perspective you have today was necessary for the life you’ve created today. The good and bad outcomes are yours because of how you think and how those thoughts informed your choices. Thus, the perspective necessary to become a millionaire should be foreign and mysterious until you do the work to research and employ the tenets and habits that qualify you for that level. You will have to go out and adapt the knowledge and understanding of your next level self. That begins with admitting that you have to purge things that can’t be brought into the next phase. Condition and renew your mind, assess your progress, and perform acts of appreciation for the new life and victory.

Mental Detox

The bad things that happened to you when you were a child, a teenager, and young adult are reflected in your life for as long as you have those memories filed in the negative section of your mind. Every time you are frustrated or scared, you’ll flip through those memories in order to gripe about how bad you have it. Those negative thoughts have their power and physical manifest by way of your choices. They have their life by way of their influence and ability to trigger your behavior. Purging thoughts that plague you with regret or vengeful impulse is the beginning of renewing your mind. For example, the toxin of pride will impede your ability to request forgiveness and repent. If you don’t repent, you can’t turn away from the behaviors that are costing your wealth, health, and happiness. The toxin of greed can cause you to take more than you should, usually during times that you should actually give, and it causes you to refuse to give when you should release. The toxin of envy is connected to every evil work, and it encourages you to compare yourself with others and that is unfair to you, to them and to the creator. It is a toxin above all toxins and is the fastest way to the grave. Envy is very unassuming, and it feels as if it is only an honest and natural thought. It is not natural. It is wicked, very twisted. The diversity we have on the planet is a blessing, and everyone has a great and miraculous gift to share with the human family and the planet. Envy shrouds your eyes from recognizing your gifts and from fully loving others and appreciating their blessing. Please refuse to tolerate it another day.

There are other emotions and perspectives that need to be cleared from your mind and doing the work includes forgiving, correcting, and clearing out that toxic emotional load. This is something that you’ll need to do regularly, and most people will need a bit of help to root out the more deep seeded problems. Determine whether you need a licensed professional, a coach, or clergyman. But whatever you do, refuse to hide or ignore you emotional toxins.

Mental Exercise

Once you clear the spiritual toxins, you will want to develop calisthenics for your mind. You will need to prepare for the challenges and disappointments that are scattered along the road to success. Scriptural study, affirmations, prayer, memorization of positive tenets, etc., builds the spiritual muscle necessary to wrangle your dream from the vision board into reality. Understand that the daily practice and preparation of your mind is something that separates the girls from the women.

Mental Witness

During your worst days, testimonies will be the way you overcome. You must compile your favorite stories of triumph, be they biblical, biographical or personal – reading stories about the past struggle to victory is how you continue in the current battle. Sometimes it looks as if winning is impossible, and it’s during those times that you need a little help from all of the whispers of encouragement that speak to the contrary. The important thing to remember is you’ll want to compile that list well ahead of actually needing it.

Mental Grateful Appreciation

Lastly, be grateful before the dream manifests and after, as well. Appreciate the privilege of being able to pursue your dreams and having the freedom and resources to be in the fight and in the struggle. The pursuit of happiness, in and of itself, is a blessing. After you pray in faith, and you work by inspired action, you should have an expectation that is so strong and true that you thank the Heavenly Father for it before it even shows up. If you haven’t developed that feeling, you may not be walking in faith. You may only have an intense hope. Go back to purging, mental exercises, and testimonies until you can’t help but give thanks for the harvest while the seed is still in the ground. That’s a major tool for the winners in business. Be as thankful as possible, even in famine, because appreciation is the mindset that positions you to receive the coming harvest.

Creating a vision and a strategy is simple, but changing our life requires changing our heart, and that’s the difficulty. So much of what we call our daily tasks are actually daily apologies. Sometimes we literally say, “I’m sorry, I can’t do that. I have to pick up the kids so I can’t pray for an hour…I have a bad knee so I can’t exercise regularly.’ We say, “I’m sorry, I don’t have time to go to the library twice a week for research…I’m sorry, I could never speak in front of a crowd.” Our heart and mind have a fortress of excuses that protect us from taking on responsibility. Have you ever considered that we sparingly use the term I’m sorry as a means of asking for forgiveness for something we’ve actually done wrong? We often use that phrase to excuse behavior that we deem necessary. Often, the phrase I’m sorry, is not a show of humility but a show of passive aggression. We passively apologize for not cooperating and then aggressively turn our backs on the actions that would bring us the wealth and health for which we prayed. In those moments, we are violently tearing down the promise of our future. You’ll never get that day or opportunity back, and in an era when business markets turn on a dime – when you never know how long you can freely use the internet at current costs, refusing to seize the day can actually be closing the door on a dwindling list of options. Thus, when you apologize for not submitting to what needs to be done, you are, essentially, apologizing to the woman you could have become had you honored your vision.

Changing your habits is changing your life. Lovingly discipline your mind and body and refuse to give in to excuses. Each time you indulge the flesh it softens the flesh. When you skip a workout, the body softens a bit, the blood circulation doesn’t yield the same detoxifying benefits, and it loosens your mental convictions, weakening your commitment. While I believe loving your body includes scheduled days of rest, rededicating a day of work to an unscheduled vacation day is usually a loss of integrity. In contrast, each time you push yourself to fulfill commitments, you reap the harvest of a new mindset and eventually a new life.

Awake One-Hour Earlier

Dedicate an hour toward activities that work toward your goal. For example, take a quarter hour to pray, a quarter-hour to read an article, and twenty minutes or so to stretch and exercise. Remember the specific activity is secondary. Just be consistent with whatever activity you choose. The most important thing is training your flesh to do what you command. It’s about conditioning and using action to strengthen your faith. Each day, the activities will build your confidence in your ability and worthiness to do and have what you desire.

Routine

Wake the same time and do the same things each day. While your weekends may look different than weekdays, find the patterns and the schedule that helps train your flesh. Just as the body adjusts to accommodate pregnancy or grows muscle to accommodate new fitness demands, your mind will also grow with new discipline over time. The body will begin to crave water breaks at noon. It will begin to assume that it’s time to do Pilates before the kids get home from schooling. It will crave salad or fruit and will begin to refuse the second piece of birthday cake. Routine really is a champion’s secret. It’s how the rich get richer. While there are some mavericks that just wing it day to day, the titans show discipline in their schedule and routine.

Partner Up

Failure needs no help, but success requires a team. Lack of accountability is a one of the greatest sins in business. It’s born out of a cunning need to make room for dropping the ball. When you own your business, you don’t punch a clock, so no one has to know that you’re surfing the web and posting on Facebook, when you should be finding new clients. Building a group of professionals with whom you periodically report your progress will keep you honest. Pay what you need to for specialists, business consultants and professional support groups to help you overcome the tricky deceit of the flesh! It’s like having the burden and expense of owning a car. You have the car note, insurance, repairs, and gas – but the thought of being without personal transportation is even more of liability. Make the investment to gain accountability and watch it drive your success.

Aesthetics

This is not an excuse to go shopping. You are your brand, and you need to look like the success you profess. It isn’t fair to expect people to see past your chipped polish and wrinkled dresses. Discipline yourself to submit to self-care activities as part of your routine. You’ll feel better, and you’ll never know just how much looking happy and healthy helps in making the sale.

Play & Kindness

Knowing how to manage stress is crucial for men, women, boys, girls, and beasts. It’s as much a part of your responsibility as eating your vegetables. Schedule time to play with children, or play a lighthearted child’s game (e.g. jump rope, Jax, hide & go seek, dodge ball, paddy cake, running/racing, etc.). Enjoy interacting with others in fun and freedom. Another fun method of stress management is performing an act of kindness. Studies suggest that doing, receiving, and witnessing an act of kindness triggers positive chemical responses in the brain. Relieving someone else’s stress can actually relieve your own! At the end of the day, being successful is aptly demonstrated with a simple act of kindness.

Life is an all you can eat buffet with infinite food choices, but it’s available for a very specific price. You may select the food of good family, the food of romance and marriage, the food of wealth, the coveted entrée of good health, and the dessert of a great shoe collection, but you can only dine at this buffet after paying the one-time price of faith (dollars) and action (cents). The problem is that faith and action are experienced in abundance for some, and meagerly for others. There are many delicious things on life’s buffet that are barely tasted by the masses, and it’s a tragedy. The tender and delectable morsels of success are reserved for those who pay the price of building a lifestyle of premium faith and inspired action. The most important thing to realize that there ain’t no free buffet at this restaurant, and sometimes you have to pay a bit extra if you want wine and truffles.

The Creator designed us to show up or cycle out of this life experience. You will either do the work to live the good life, or you will serve a sentence as the walking dead – wrought with fantasies and regrets and no legacy. Harsh, I know – but it’s better to see the choices ahead than to float around thinking that your best intention is good enough. Faith in action is how mankind pleases the Creator. Talk is cheap – really cheap, and the thing you actually do reflects what you truly believe. So, take a look at the menu of life. Select your appetizer, entrée, and dessert – then get to work building your faith with affirmation, scriptural study, and classical education. Don’t stop working on your vocational expertise and spiritual mindset until your faith and preparation propels you toward the door of action. Recruit the team, staff, and mentors necessary to strategize and execute movement, and let action have its good work in your life.

Then enjoy your meal!

Nevertheless, we should consider the stressors associated with taking action. Being action adverse is common for many, and it can have an acute onset with business owners. Life’s buffet can have bitter selections, and from time-to-time, you might mistakenly fill your plate with some regrettable choices. However, in most cases, you may discard the unwanted cuisine, grab a clean plate, and stay clear of that food choice in the future. In truth, releasing your fear begins with a brave appreciation for failure. Understand that faith speaks to your belief that you are generally invincible even in the face of losing, even more so than the shallow belief that you will win every battle.

As an entrepreneur you must facilitate your faith by elevating your perspective about life and business.

Choices and action are a furnace and a womb. It’s the environment from which you are reborn into a new stronger and more vigilante person. If you don’t take the inspired, strategic action, you don’t get to grow, and you’ll never have a chance at the victory. Miracles happen when you get into action. Learn to be repelled by the thought of another plate of boring brown rice in life. Remember another year of inaction gets you the limited menu choices that make life a disappointment. Refuse to over spiritualize the journey, making everything about positive affirmations with no actionable follow-through. That’s a farce, and it gets tricky because most of us would prefer keeping things simple and spiritual rather than showing and proving our resolve with action. When you purchase that non-refundable ticket to fly to a networking event, and introduce yourself to the movers and shakers in your industry, your assertions of spiritual enlightenment are really tested.

Ultimately, money, love, health, and happiness require growth in the mind and heart, as evident by the presence of faith. And they require movement in the physical realm via a well-planned and executed action. While jumping from the cliff of new territories is daunting, proving that you can fly makes it worth the risk. So, jump sisters – JUMP!

The courage to try is not acceptable. Don’t get on that train. It may sound liberating, but it’s a trap. When we decide to be successful, pay off debt, send our parents to a five-star senior home, we have the responsibility of bringing that to fruition. That’s a decision. In contrast, trying to do those things leaves momma in a government-subsidized senior home with sticky floors, reeking with the smell of pine oil and popcorn.

“Oh, Momma. I’m so sorry, but I tried!”

Now, imagine you had to fight to keep your children safe from a big bad predator, or you had to go find food in the wilderness so they wouldn’t starve. Would you be comfortable with a passive intention of trying to save them or would you feel the rise of determination necessary to grab hold of your victory for their sake?

The concept of trying is irresponsible. It sets you up to accept failure. Remember, anything that encourages excuses is a liability. There should be no room for excuses, because they make room for the fail. The courage to try is birthed out of the energy that makes it okay to try but miss the mark. The word try carries the darkened energy of failure, and it also carries a weak, flimsy reference of winning. The concept suggests that trying is a reward. And while sometimes, we can give our all and still finish in second place; many times we lose because we made space for the loss in our hearts. We excuse the loss of victory, citing that the timing was off, or that there wasn’t enough money. We even have the nerve to admit to having a lack of confidence! All our excuses sound so logical, and they even feel a little insightful and forward thinking. But as a seasoned Coach and Strategist, I don’t hear the excuses. I hear the question.

Why did those excuses have room to block your win?

Why didn’t you do the work to grow your confidence and expertise? Why didn’t your due diligence prepare you for industry standards and expectation? Why didn’t you network, study, invest in necessary workshops, and find the cash you needed? Honestly ladies, when you need money for a thing, you find the money. If you’ll lose the car, lose your home, when you need your hair done, or when your child needs braces, you find the money. So, the truth of the matter, more than likely, is that you failed to be resourceful and you decided to settle for the bragging rights of having tried.

One entrepreneur to another, I declare to you, trying is absolutely not good enough! I want you at the top of your mountain, pulling other business owners up to the apex, sharing the lessons that you learned when you won the victory. Of course, count the cost, investigate what will be required of you, but once you make a decision to attain a desire – girl, go get your blessing! Learn to build your character with faith and action. You can’t become that triumphant, dragon slayer by almost slaying dragons. Do it – get it done, and never again romanticize trying.

Success is more about getting the weakness out of your life. We do push ups and sit ups to get the weakness out of the body. We refuse to listen to naysayers to get the weak thoughts out of our minds. We get educated and better informed so as to get the weakness of ignorance out of our intellect. We must strengthen our character and crowd out weakness. Make your day about the next step that strengthens the hold on victory. If you feel weak at the thought of asking for a meeting with the mayor about contracting with your business, then fight through that point of pain. Step closer to victory by rehearsing your pitch to a mentor, study more about the mayor’s likes and dislikes, affirm who you are – read your resume and legitimately build your confidence. Do all you can do, being careful not to use the prep-time to procrastinate, and then make the call – contact the mayor’s office and let the gift of courage make room for you. Pushing through the pain and fire of fear with strategic action is the exercise that gets the weakness out of our personality.

Most people doing big things need a team of support. If you find that you keep trying to wake up an hour earlier to pray or exercise, and you keep hitting the snooze button, you need help. At the start of a thing, when you’re a mere babe in the woods, you’ll need a parent to help save you from yourself. Think of how helpless our children are in the world. How we have to get them up in the mornings for school, even when they gripe and grumble. Think how we check their homework, and hold them accountable, teaching responsibility and consequences. Your lifestyle and flesh will tell you when you need a parent. When you refuse to read affirmations or make sales calls consistently, you must admit that you are just an adolescent in mindset, and you need a legal guardian. Get a mentor, please, before you waste another precious year of your life trying to attain wealth and success. Pay whatever you need to get the business coach or guru that will hold you accountable and won’t let you get away with merely trying.

Hollywood can be a friend and a foe to entrepreneurs. They provide a friendly and amazing service when offering a glimpse into the life of miracles and fantasy. Their fascinating stories, the characters, the struggle and triumph serve to feed the higher calling within each business owner. In contrast, the images of unrealistic characters that provide impossible standards serve as a nemesis of sorts. There are heroes that are unbelievably good-looking, physically fit, have black belts in karate, and can hack two laptops while baking cookies for a soccer team. Our TV heroines date the dream guy, keep a flawless manicure, and they have the nerve to grapple with some endearing flaw that makes them even more adorable. And sitcoms are the worst because their heroes solve life-altering dilemmas within thirty minutes, every week for an entire season.

HOLLYWOOD REALLY?

Thanks for setting impossible standards!

In real life, we live out the role of superwoman, supermom, super CEO, super-wife, super-neighbor and super-deaconess at church, and we do it without theme music or commercial breaks. The goal of life and success is to walk in excellence and be sober, not delusional. Refuse to be taunted by the mythical Hollywood creatures that appear flawlessly in every frame. It may be acceptable to take a cue from Hollywood when you need to believe in the dream and pursue the miracle, but release unattainable standards when you get stuck with a bad hair day. Humidity will have its work, and that new haircut will sometimes do unexpected things. Understand, that success is a dance between give and take. Life is a little yin and a little yang, it’s up and down – and it’s about mastering the balance.

The entrepreneur that walks the talk is the entrepreneur that remains positive when things go negative. It’s about your self-talk when things get scary, about effectively encouraging employees on their worst day, and about outperforming a competitor without gloating. Walking the talk looks a lot different in real life than it does on TV. Being the boss rarely looks perfect in the day to day. Truthfully, success really is about the times when it gets a little rough, and your mindset is so keen to success that you walk on the water rather than giving in to the tempest and crashing waves. It’s about your faith level and your faith walk. And this is an opportunity to realize an additional way that Hollywood helps us:

In woeful moments, see yourself as your favorite hero emerging from the ashes with the wind-fan blowing her braids in the air as she carries 2 innocent children to safety!

We really have to thank Hollywood for those campy moments in cinema. Those images are easily leveraged when we need to look beyond the challenges of the day, and find the triumphant possibilities of tomorrow. And now, ladies and gentlemen, we come to the part that separates the girls from the women. Walking the talk speaks to what you know to do versus what you actually do. In the moments when you’ve invested lots of money, put in the time, worked in excellence, produced a superior product, but your brand gets passed over for a lesser company, what will you do? Those are the moments when you walk it out. When you want to cry, but you move on to the next sales call or team meeting. Those are the days that you’re really a boss. When you can take the hit and keep on ticking, you walk the talk. Walking the talk isn’t some white washed version of life, when you always look good, you’re always flawless, and you’re always winning. Walking the talk is evident when a client delays paying an invoice and payroll and bills are due. Walking it out is when you’re nervous about the schedule or a cranky client, but you have to keep your game face because all of your employees are watching you to determine if the ship’s sinking. Those are moments that you grow up and stretch out – you literally map out new territory and dominance on those days!

Ultimately, be prepared, offer an excellent product, be confident and believe in yourself and your staff, honor your brand with good marketing, aesthetics, and pay rates. But when all is said and everything that you know to do is done, no matter what happens, walk it out, walk the talk!

I often wonder how people get started. I’m curious about the things that propel people into action, despite the chance of falling on their face, loosing lots of cash, and wasting precious time and effort. Dreams and aspirations are exciting, and we love stories about heroes that rise to the occasion to fight unlikely battles. Be it Biblical parables, folklore, or nursery rimes, we are conditioned to acknowledge the risks and show up for battle nevertheless. However when we speak of things that are elective, things like electing to open a bakery, or choosing to setup a singing telegram business, there’s the added burden of deciding if you have the right to risk everything for something that isn’t absolutely necessary. Is your wedding catering business really necessary? Aren’t other caterers doing a fine job serving the needs of hungry customers?

Isn’t the thought that you should get out there to spend time and money for your dream a bit decadent?

Do you have the right to want something just because

you’d like to have it?

Being an entrepreneur takes a certain mental strength because, at the core, a decision to own a business seems like an unnecessary risk. There are so many other ways to make a living and to secure a future for your family. Why risk what you’ve created for yourself to attain some lofty goal? My advice regarding this debilitating dilemma is two part: due diligence & procrastination.

Instead of waiting for permission, get into the action of making it happen. Make the calls, take the classes, see the business lawyer, and set-up the corporate structure. The activity of due diligence is an act of defiance against all the little voices in your head that suggest you shouldn’t risk all you have to live the dream. Due diligence helps you write that vision and create the steps to attain it. Often when you begin to count the cost, you find that it’s doable – that you can find the money and the time to get it done. However, when you are plagued by procrastination, your creative imagination is used for evil, as it gives you cruel visions of failure and insurmountable odds. But I’ve discovered a way to use procrastination for good!

Procrastination is a lot like the wind. It’s always blowing around, but if you ever harness that energy in a windmill, you can create even more energy and progress. The windmill is due diligence. When you prepare to begin an enterprise, and you are not quite ready to officially open for business, due diligence is a positive kind of procrastination. You can find solace in the fact that you don’t have to face the big bad wolf of starting your business yet, but you can finish that book on social media marketing, take notes, and decide how you’ll implement the lessons. Also, when you’ve done a full days work of preparing and procrastinating via due diligence, you can further procrastinate by taking the kids and the dog to the park for a few hours. That’s a good use of the procrastination gene. Treat a neighbor to coffee, and making certain the conversation stays positive and befitting an honorable, soon to be successful entrepreneur, take time to smell the roses and live an enviable life. Sometimes, procrastination can breathe new life into your professional planning, and convincing your spouse to take a day trip to the shore in the middle of the week is a reset button for you and your business.

Ultimately, you must be discipline enough to schedule tasks on a strict calendar. You’ll want to faithfully follow-through with each chore without procrastinating. However, you also want to use the gift of procrastinating to breathe new life and offset the stress and anxiety of due diligence. With some discipline, the two activities can actually work in tandem.

When we think of outcomes, and we consider the category that describes them, be it something positive or something negative, labeling gives us a feeling that our job is done. You put the experience in a box and you move on. However in actuality, the work has just begun. Whether it is a box of happy endings or the all-is-lost or woe-is-me box of failure, assessing outcomes is how we leverage for future success.

With regard to the coveted box of positivity, when things map out just perfectly – when we meet the love of our life, we get the promotion, when we make our first seven figures, or we lose weight, our ego gets a boost and our naysayers are momentarily silence. There’s nothing quite like vindication and the sweet nectar from the fruits of our victories. Even when things go well, there are lessons to be learned. One must take time to consider how the war was won. So, it’s very important to relish and engage in the splendor of success, but the most crucial task is assessment. We must canonize the behaviors and performance that proved profitable.

In contrast, when we have negative manifestation, ego takes a hit, we lick our wounds, and we have to suffer the gloat and taunts of naysayers. Most hurtful, is the loss of the prize and the, seemingly, wasted time and squandered resources. Arguably, there’s even more to learn with negative outcomes, which is difficult to admit and surprising to consider. Firstly, we hone the skill of demonstrating unconditional love for ourselves. Self acceptance and authenticity is the tenet of success that often goes neglected, but there’s something about crashing into a wall that forces an entrepreneur to face their vulnerability and find a way to believe and honor themselves, despite the failure. On the day when all is lost, when we tried and failed, when the neighbors are pointing and jeering, and our nemesis counts our loss as their win, we can choose to walk in the dignity of having tried and honor the divinity still alive and well within us. And it’s those days that we develop the muscle of true self-acceptance. This, by the way, is the same love and acceptance by which we care for others. If you’ve ever met someone who’s unkind to themselves when they make a mistake, someone that has brutal self-talk and berates himself or herself for their inability to operate in perfection, you have met a special kind of evil. RUN! At the end of every day, a person will only love you as they love themselves, and how they behave toward themselves on the day of loss, yields a fairly accurate demonstration of their ability to be supportive to you on your inevitable day of humility.

Indeed, negative outcomes are priceless opportunities to cultivate self-love and care. Failure is proving ground for all the things you claim to believe – be it forgiveness, faith, hope, bravery, and self-respect. Talk is getting cheaper, and the priceless days of failure are really what make you grow as a business owner. So, in the moments when you feel the cut and injury of unwanted outcomes, rest a beat, manage the stress at the gym or a dance class, perform damage control, operate in forgiveness and self love, but most importantly, glean the positive lessons imbedded in the pain. There are lessons in the debris of a failure that are, many times, more transformational than that of positive outcomes. So despite the loss of money, divorce, being fired from a job, weight gain, or hair loss – every instance yields a chance to face fear, look an enemy in the eye, and realize that you survived, overcame, and still you rise. There’s something to be said for experience and testimony as it relates to the future battle. When you’ve stood in the ring and taken life’s best shot, surviving and rising from the canvas of the boxing ring, you realize your durability. And be encouraged because something happens spiritually when you face an enemy the second time around. You are always more qualified the second time, if only because you know how your opponent plays the game.

If you’ve every looked into the face of a warrior, you’ve seen that formidable often intimidating element in their eyes. That element is made of one thing: preparation. Warriors are prepared to win and prepared to lose. Hollywood movies geek us out with conditioning that the hero wins and that’s why we love them, but we actually love them only when we appreciate their struggle. We love them because the tried, and we especially love them when they triumph despite their childhood, the betrayal, or some great loss. We love and respect them because they go to battle despite the possibility of loss – they are prepared to face and survive however it plays out.

This week, I encourage you to shed the idea that your journey needs to be untouched by negativity. Of course, acknowledge the things that you could have done better and next time, do them better, but do not spend too much time mourning the losses. Simply, glean the positive and valuable lessons in negative outcomes.

A lot of us are not living the quality of life we should live, simply because we are living in fear, and afraid of taking that big step. Fear is one constant feeling almost every human experience. We are scared of taking that job, afraid of quitting a bad job, afraid of getting into the career and business, afraid of investing, and a whole lot of things.

Half of the time, being fearful can be advantageous, as it keeps us from hurt. But what we don’t know is that these fears actually cripple our minds, and hold us back from thinking big and beyond our present situations.

Staying in your comfort zone can shield you from the harsh realities of life, but for how long do you want to be cocooned and pampered in your comfort zone when there are battles to be fought and won out there?

How to Face Your Fears and Win!

1) Move Out of Your Comfort Zone

Moving out of one’s comfort zone is one of the greatest fears anyone can ever have. Everyone is scared of leaving their familiar ‘environment’ and trying new things. Forgetting that these new things are the steps to new victories and winnings in life.

You can never experience life the way you have to if you are huddled up in the space of comfort for too long.

2) Engage in Things That You Fear

As activist Anna Eleanor Roosevelt rightly said, ‘Do one thing every day that scares you’, you need to face at least one fear a day. Do those things that give you the creeps; they are your rites to victories. There is no gain without pain.

It is better you face your fears and fail, than not trying at all. When you take those steps and make those scary moves, they mold and shape you. Even when you don’t win, you have learned and earned the courage and confidence to try again and again. And before you know you, you become a Pro at it, cashing out victoriously.

3) Set ‘Adventurous’ Goals for Yourself

Fear is nothing but a silly tyrant who likes to oppress people into thinking they can’t achieve anything. Call its bluff by setting high and adventurous life goals for yourself. Think of the impossible in your career, business, craft, and profession, and go after it.

Think of the worst thing that can happen when you make that adventurous but sensible and legit life move, if the worst that can happen doesn’t involve death, shame, disgrace, or incarceration, then you are good to go.

4) Dump Your Fears, Embrace Faith, Hope, and Courage

If you want to win in life, you have to drop your fears and pick up courage, hope, confidence, and faith. Joel Osteen shared this quote “Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life.”

Faith in yourself and what you can do is the key to overcoming what scares you and pushing you in the direction of greatness. You need to have faith in your abilities and be confident, hopeful, and courageous in your journey to your victories.

Never allow the fear of failing ridicule your dreams of growing big. You can be what you want to be, and achieve all you plan to achieve, if only you overcome your fears, and turn them to passion and motivation.

Ask around, the people who lead good lives, and have their names etched on Forbes list would tell you how they never paid attention to their fears but decided to forge into the unknown, from which they became victorious and winners.

Never listen to your fears; don’t give room for fear and doubts in your thoughts. Leave your comfort zone, make big plans, and follow them through with dedication, focus, and determination to victory.

You got this!!! Let’s WIN!!!
